Hello I recently purchased a large piece of quartz Crystal at a lunar festival in NJ & was drawn to it due to an unusual 3D textured/webbed pyramid formed at the base of the crystal rising upward. The vendor didn’t know anything about it but I’ve never come across anything in many years of crystal collecting & studies. I have been browsing many sites & can’t find anything resembling what I have, can you please tell me what this is & what it’s proper name would be?

This crystal is a phantom. so when the crystal was just the size of the pyramid in it’s growth cycle, it had washes of another mineral over it – (likely Chlorite)
Then the crystal carries on growing. This cycle repeated many times, forming the layers you see. Looking at the shape of the crystal at the time of the phantoms forming, it would have had incredible tapering form before they cut it to the shape it is now.

Your site is so informative, and I am so glad to have found it. I am new collecting and have a lot to learn. I have two items that were supposed to be clear quartz and smoky quartz but I am not sure they are real. They have inclusions that I cannot find information about and I am thinking they may be bubbles. Are these glass? Thank you for your time!
Hi Rhonna, sometimes it can be hard to tell from photos, but I’m 90% sure yours is genuine. The inclusions look to be glob-lets of un-solidified quartz, which is quite common in Quartz 🙂
